On National Sorry Day, The Healing Foundation has released ‘From Sorry to Action – A plan to act on Bringing them home (2026-2028)’. 

Centred on survivors, families and intergenerational healing, the plan calls for firm government commitments ahead of the 30th anniversary of the Bringing them home report in May 2027.

Twenty-nine years on, survivors are still waiting for action on the report’s core recommendations. National Sorry Day matters — but without action, it is not enough.

The Close the Gap Campaign welcomes the Healing Foundation’s plan and the clear path it sets out for action.

Stolen Generation survivors and their descendants deserve justice, healing and culturally safe care. The ‘From Sorry to Action’ plan sets out what meaningful government responses should look like.

We call on governments to close the ‘gap within the gap’ and invest in and implement the priority actions without delay.
